Since the 1940s Poles have come to the British Isles for different reasons. After WW2 about 200,000 Polish soldiers stayed in the UK to avoid being sent to Soviet prison camps. Later, many Poles came here to escape communist rule. In recent years especially since Poland joined the EU, Poles have been coming here for economic reasons.
